  2. Please keep up these fascinating Alexeieff posts. It's interesting that an artist such as Alexeieff can be so underrated by the world at large - as in, completely unknown - and so highly valued by collectors - as in, completely beyond the ordinary pocket.

  3. These are no less wonderful than we might have hoped given the Pushkin illustrations. I suspect there's something about the use of monochrome layering to of shades on the one hand and clear outlines and sharp contrasts on the other that captures the obscure atmospheres of the tale while suggesting the searching light it shined on those depths; chilling, yes, but with analytical intent.
